Back in my day...

Hex Studios was created in 2011 by Lawrie Brewster and Sarah Daly as a means of producing unusual genre films which take inspiration from the classic horror of yesteryear. We were driven to create films with original storylines and captivating characters, and to develop exciting new horror icons.

Lawrie took the lead in producing and directing, ensuring that our films boasted production values that far exceeded their budgets. Sarah’s writing guaranteed that our films had a heart and soul, an earnestness that has won us ardent fans around the world who support our vision for genre filmmaking.

Early on, we found success with short film collaborations with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum, which saw our work screened at Sundance and SXSW. Sarah’s writing would continue to be performed by other Hollywood stars such as Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway, Anna Kendrick, and even pop sensation Sia.

In the meantime, Lawrie would develop an international co-production, a film which starred Malcolm McDowell, Lance Henriksen, and Francesca Eastwood. Shot in LA, the film featured spectacular practical effects produced by Alex Gillis and Tom Woodruff, responsible for the effects in Tremors, Aliens, Starship Troopers and even the new “IT” horror film.

Our collective success reaped many benefits which Lawrie and Sarah invested towards growing their production team into a fully-fledged boutique film studio and distributor. Further success followed, with the development of the “Owlman” antagonist, which erupted into a global horror phenomenon that saw videos featuring our character generate over 100 million views online, as well as acquiring celebrity fans including Kelly Osbourne, Alice Cooper, Slash from Guns and Roses, and even Guillermo Del Toro!

Since then, we have produced an increasing number of horror films each year, premiering in international genre festivals around the world, festivals such as FrightFest in the UK, and the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.

Our beloved Special Edition Blu-ray products have also seen us produce the most successful horror film crowdfunding campaigns in the UK, and in Europe.

We have retained our passion for independent filmmaking and collaboration, with the creation of films and the growth of our horror film studio, which takes inspiration from the likes of Britain’s venerable Amicus Productions, Hammer, and Cannon.

Among our ardent supporters, we count Roger Corman and Lloyd Kaufman, who have provided personal advice and support. In turn, as we produce more films and expand our studio and production capabilities, we are keen to assist and promote new horror artists wishing to work with us from all walks of life.

Now, we are in the process of acquiring larger premises, in the form of a beautiful gothic building, and aim to develop our own streaming platform so that folks can share the unique experience of watching films and participating in their creation, with the Hex Studios team.
